Some days will include longer drives as you travel between Georgia’s diverse regions – but these journeys are part of the adventure, revealing ever-changing views of Georgia’s breathtaking landscapes.

Itinerary

Day 1 – Tbilisi

Welcome to Georgia! Upon arrival in Tbilisi, you’ll be greeted at the airport and join a shared transfer to your hotel – a great chance to meet some of your fellow travellers. Take some time to relax after your journey or head out to get your first taste of the city. In the evening, meet your guide and the rest of your group for a welcome dinner.

Day 2 - Tbilisi

Dive into Georgia’s vibrant capital with a guided city tour. Visit Metekhi Church and the statue of Tbilisi’s founder, Vakhtang Gorgasali, before taking a cable car up to Narikala Fortress for incredible views over the city. Wander through the historic sulphur bath district and lively Sharden area, filled with cafés, wine bars, and shops. See Sioni Cathedral, Anchiskhati Basilica, and the quirky clock tower of the Gabriadze Theatre, then cross the Bridge of Peace to Rike Park. To round off the day, you’ll head out to the towering Chronicles of Georgia monument, an impressive tribute to the country’s rich history and culture.

Day 3 – Kakheti

Leave the city behind and venture east towards Kakheti, Georgia’s celebrated wine region. Today you’ll be able to sample local wines at a family-run winery, where traditional Qvevri winemaking is combined with modern techniques. Continue to the beautiful Monastery of St. Nino, who brought Christianity to Georgia, before exploring the charming, cobbled streets of Sighnaghi – also known as the City of Love. End the day with views of the Alazani Valley at Nekresi Monastery, then relax over dinner in Kvareli where you’ll stay for the night.

Day 4 – Kakheti

Continue your journey through the Kakheti Region with another tasting of unique Georgian wine at a beautiful winery on the edge of the Alazani ValleyNext, visit the 11th-century Alaverdi Monastery and the elegant Tsinandali estate, where you can wander through the historic wine cellar and beautiful gardensFinally, as you head back to Tbilisi you’ll pass through Telavi, famous for its scenic views and ancient sycamore tree.

Day 5 – Mtskheta / Kazbegi

Set off towards the Caucasus Mountains near Georgia’s northern border, following the historic Georgian Military Highway. Begin with a stop at Jvari Church perched on a cliff that overlooks the confluence of the Aragvi and Mtkvari Rivers. Explore the ancient town of Mtskheta, the former capital of Georgia, and sample local treats like churchkhela. Then travel through Georgia’s stunning landscapes to reach Kazbegi, where you’ll be staying tonight. Along the way visit Ananuri Fortress, a historic stronghold overlooking Jinvali Reservoir, and the Friendship Monument which has incredible mountain views.

Day 6 – Kazbegi

Wake up in the heart of the mountains and head out to one of Georgia’s most iconic landmarks – Gergeti Trinity Church. Perched high at 2,170 meters beneath the towering peak of Mount Kazbek, this church rewards you with sweeping views across the Caucasus Mountain Range. If the weather is right, take a scenic hike through the Dariali Gorge, where you’ll see dramatic cliffs and the beautiful Dariali Monastery. After soaking in the mountain scenery, begin your journey back to Tbilisi, where you’ll have dinner and stay overnight.

Day 7 – Uplistsikhe / Kutaisi

Today your Georgian adventure continues as you travel west towards Kutaisi, stopping first at the ancient Uplistsikhe Cave Town – literally meaning “Fortress of God.” Carved into the rocky cliffs over 3,000 years ago, this extraordinary site blends influences from Cappadocia and Northern Iran, revealing Georgia’s diverse history. Continue your journey to Kutaisi, the third largest city in Georgia. Enjoy a stroll through the old, cobbled streets and visit the majestic Bagrati CathedralEnd your day at the Motsameta Monastery, high above the Rioni River Gorge, with colourful frescoes and peaceful views over the valley.

Day 8 – Kutaisi

Not far from Kutaisi you’ll discover more of Georgia’s natural wonders! Begin with a visit to Prometheus Cave, where a 1.5 km underground walk reveals a dazzling world of stalactites, stalagmites, and rock formations illuminated by coloured lights. Next, experience the stunning Martvili Canyon, where vibrant turquoise waters wind through dramatic cliffs. You can explore its beauty on foot along elevated walkways and up close by on a boat ride through the canyon. Afterwards, return to Tbilisi for your final evening and enjoy one last delicious Georgian meal.

Day 9 – Tbilisi

It’s time to say goodbye to Georgia and to your fellow travellers. Check out of your hotel and join the shared group transfer to the airport.

Do all trips have guaranteed departures?

Each trip requires a minimum number of participants to go ahead. Please ensure your departure is confirmed before booking flights to Georgia.  

Why is Mtskheta such an important stop?

Are there any requirements for booking this trip?

All travellers are required to obtain comprehensive travel insurance prior to joining any trip. Your policy must provide adequate cover for medical expenses, emergency medical evacuation, trip cancellation or interruption, personal liability, and loss or damage to personal belongings. Please ensure that your insurance also covers all activities included in the itinerary. Proof of insurance may be requested before departure, and participation may be refused without adequate coverage.

What type of accommodation can I expect?

You’ll stay in 3-star or 4-star hotels throughout Georgia. Accommodation is based on two people sharing per room, but a single supplement is available for solo travellers who want a private room (if arranged in advance).

Can I stay longer in Georgia or have private transfers?

Yes, pre-trip and post-trip accommodation in Tbilisi as well as private airport transfers can be arranged for an additional cost. It’s recommended to book these in advance to ensure there is availability. What are the entry requirements for Georgia?

To enter Georgia, your passport must be valid for the entire duration of your stay, and it is advised that you have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the date you arrive. UK citizens can visit Georgia without a visa for up to 365 daysbut it is your responsibility to check the official government website for the most up-to-date information. Is there anything else I should know?

  • How much driving is involved? 

    Travelling around the country is part of the adventure and some days involve driving long distances, but we have included interesting stops along the way.
     The amount of time on the road ranges from approximately 3-6 hours of driving per day, but travel times can vary depending on the conditions. 

  • What level of fitness is required? 

    A moderate level of fitness is recommended due to long days of exploring and the opportunity to hike in the mountains. Please be aware that the altitude in Georgia may be higher than you are used to and may take time for your body to adjust. The average altitude on this trip will exceed 2000m in certain areas. Please bear this in mind before booking your trip.

     
  • What type of luggage should I bring?

    Due to limited space in the minivan/bus, we advise against bringing large, hard suitcases and instead recommend foldable soft bags.
